TREATS frozen yogurt partners with Pedego on upcoming drawing for Pedego electric bike to benefit SMMEF
IRVINE, Calif., April 2, 2015 — There’s only one thing better than enjoying a fun electric bike ride followed by a refreshing frozen yogurt: Sharing all of that for a good cause. In the spirit of paying it forward, Barb and Steve Wittels, owners of Pedego Santa Monica, have donated a Pedego® electric bike for a drawing to benefit schools in Santa Monica and Malibu. The pale blue Pedego Comfort Cruiser can be seen at TREATS Frozen Yogurt & Dessert Bar, a popular dessert destination in Santa Monica known for their community involvement. In a move reminiscent of the film ET, TREATS owner Amy Salko Robertson and John Robertson have hung the bike from the shop’s ceiling so that it appears to be flying over the patrons.
For every $50 donated to Santa Monica Malibu Education Foundation (SMMEF) by April 14, each donor will be entered in a drawing to win the bike, valued at more than $2,700 including tax. Donors can give at SMMEF.org or visit TREATS at 17th and Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica to see the bike and donate in person. The drawing to pick the lucky winner will be held on Wednesday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. at TREATS. Winners need not be present. Wittels of Pedego is pleased with the response so far. “We’re thrilled to contribute to such an important organization in our community,” she said. “And we’re gratified knowing that people who love our schools are also excited about an opportunity to win one of our bikes.” Other prizes will include gift certificates for free electric bike rentals and frozen yogurt.
Established in 1982 by a dedicated group of parents, community leaders, and local business owners, SMMEF’s mission is to engage the community to invest in a vibrant educational experience for all students in the Santa Monica and Malibu public schools. Because of their success in helping children, they’ve become Salko Robertson ‘s favorite charity — one she deems deserving of the proceeds from the drawing. “PEDEGO was inspired by TREATS’ commitment to our community and in turn made this incredibly generous donation to benefit the charity of our choice,” Salko Robertson said. “And, of course, we chose SMMEF for the wonderful work they do for all of our local kids and families.”
SMMEF Executive Director Linda Greenberg is elated about this promotion. “The Pedego and TREATS collaboration has been a tremendous way to encourage our community to donate to SMMEF,” she said. “All donations will directly impact children in the Santa Monica-Malibu public schools by funding additional staff, arts education, and a variety of innovative programs, including science and technology instruction. We are so thankful to Pedego, TREATS and all the donors for supporting our children!”
This event benefits adults as well. When people see Pedego bikes, they usually want to try one. To help, Pedego Santa Monica is offering free test rides at their showroom. “While supplies last, we’ll even give a free sports watch to test riders who come to us from TREATS,” said Wittels. “Test ride vouchers are available at TREATS … or just come in and say TREATS. It’s all for the support of our local schools.”
